Mono Stringer

Two systems — with tread supports, and without

Design 01

Overview

A single laser-cut steel stringer runs down the centre of the staircase and the treads reach out on either side. Light passes straight through the stair, so the room behind it stays open and the staircase becomes the focal point. The steel is finished with no visible welding or assembly marks, rectified corners and a smooth surface.

One line of steel, carrying everything.

We build it two ways. With tread supports, small plates carry each step from either side of the spine — ours are the smallest on the market, and they are what let this design take extra-wide and extra-thick steps. Without tread supports, every provision is made inside the stringer, so nothing at all is visible beneath or beside the treads.

Both are manufactured to your drawings in our Vaughan facility. Full supply and installation across Canada; supply and delivery anywhere in North America.

Type 01

With tread supports

Treads are carried by visible support plates either side of the central spine. Our brackets protrude only about two inches to the left and right of the stringer — the smallest on the market — and they are what let this design carry extra-wide and extra-thick steps in heavier materials.

The one to choose when the steps get big.

Type 02

Without tread supports

Not a bracket in sight. Every provision for holding the steps is made inside the stringer, so each tread appears to hover on its own with nothing beneath it and nothing at its sides. It is the cleanest look we build in steel, and the favourite for homes — an open entry, a bright double-height space, a stair you see from below.

Nothing on the outside of the stringer. No plates, no welds, no marks.
